Each Parish is obliged under Canon Law to have a Finance Committee. Its primary function is to advise and assist the Parish Priest in the financial administration of the Parish. It is advisory, with the Parish Priest retaining ultimate responsibility.
Membership consists of the Parish Priest(s), together with lay members, including a Chairperson, appointed by the Parish Priest. The Committee usually meet at least 6 times each year.
The Chairperson is required to be a lay person, experienced in financial and business matters.
Its role spans maintaining proper financial records, budgeting, regular oversight of Parish accounts, including the Annual Financial Statement.
